Newcastle - Upon - Tyne

(England)

Well what can I say? What a place! I moved to Newcastle in September 1992 to study and I don't think I will ever leave now. The city is great, the people (most of them anyway) are also great and the drinking is brilliant. Many a good piss up has been had in the city especially on the Quay side. I don't like every thing about Newcastle, I'm not that keen on Newcastle United for instance. I also hate some of the people. You know the type, the ones who hate you just because you are not a local. Anyone who knows Newcastle will know that going drinking in the Bigg Market on a weekend and not being a local is a suicide mission.

I don't want to give the place a bad press so I will talk about the good aspects of the place and this to me is the pubs.

Offshore 44 (Quayside)- Always been a favourite because of the cheap cocktails. We always started at 4.00 on a saturday afternoon in offshores for the cheap drinks. It was always empty when we went in and full when we left. Sadly, we don't seem to go there anymore.

The Baltic (Quayside)- It is now the Bonded Warehouse but it will always be the Baltic to me. They used to have a good jukebox and DJ but they have gone dance music mad now. Beer is awful and undrinkable (so we always get bottled beer in there) Music isn't that good anymore so don't ask me why I still like it. I have had to add to this because they have now got a new DJ and the pub seems to have been given a new lease of life (hooray)

Flynns (Quayside)- The reason I like going to Flynns is the vodka jellies and test tubes. The place is small and gets very full. You need to get several drinks with one visit to the bar as it is usually a long time before you can get back there.

The Waterline (Quayside)- Again cheap cocktails and naff beer but loads of posh tottie (not as much as in the pitcher and piano up the road though) The Waterline is great in the summer as you can sit out the front looking over the picturesque river Tyne (don't make me laugh) and get very drunk while sunning yourself and watching the passers by. This used to be best as a student as you could watch all the people going home from work and laugh. I now work and sometimes go passed on the way home and I don't think its funny anymore.

Dobsons (city centre) - Cheap treble vodka and orange is one of the attractions of this place. The music is also brilliant. They play a lot of new stuff but also the old songs that everyone likes to sing along to and dance to (you know the ones I mean.) It gets very full but that doesn't matter as everyone tends to just have a laugh.

Pacific Cafe (city centre) - One of the few city centre pubs that we go in and probably the best. The place only opened a year ago and has already got a good reputation. Beer isn't to expensive, music is good and the women that go in - well enough said!!

These are just some of the many, many pubs in Newcastle. Some of my other favourites include

The beer isn't the only important thing about Newcastle although you may think I believe it is by now. There is much to do and see, the problem is I seem to always fall into the nearest pub.
