MORT.

Mortimer. Youngest son son of Lezek. Tall, red-haired and freckled, thin, white face, with the sort of of body that seems to be only marginally in control; it appeared to have been built at the knees. He had the kind of vague, cheerful helpfulness that serious men soon learned to dread.

Mort was the son of a humble farmer and despite the bleak description above Mort obviously had something about him because Death choose him to be his apprentice. At first this simply involved him cleaning out the stables at Deaths house but did go onto actually filling deaths role for a while, a job he did very badly and threatened the entire destruction of the Disc. Mort married Deaths adopted daughter Ysabell and they had a daughter, Susan. Susan has also had to take on deaths role. It runs in the family.
